(April 30, 2026) Former General Manager of the Port Authority of Guam, Mary Camacho Torres, today congratulated the Port’s employees on securing federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program for the replacement of the Port’s aging ship-to-shore gantry cranes.

Torres, who previously led the Port during a period of critical operational and financial stabilization, said the award reflects years of sustained effort by Port employees to modernize Guam’s only commercial seaport.

“This milestone did not happen overnight,” said Torres. “It is the result of years of hard work, persistence, and commitment by the men and women of the Port who have continued to push forward despite challenges. I am incredibly proud of them.”

She emphasized that the successful award demonstrates the Port’s ability to compete at the federal level and highlights the importance of long-term planning and disciplined execution.

“The Port team has consistently demonstrated professionalism and resilience in maintaining operations while working toward major infrastructure improvements,” she said. “Securing this level of federal investment is a testament to their credibility and the strength of their vision.”

Torres also noted the critical role the Port plays in supporting Guam’s economy and national security, stating that modern, reliable equipment is essential to maintaining supply chain stability and readiness in the region.

“This investment strengthens Guam’s position as a strategic hub in the Indo-Pacific and ensures that the Port can continue to serve our island and our nation effectively,” she added.

She concluded by recognizing the Port workforce for their dedication.

“To the employees of the Port Authority of Guam, congratulations. This achievement belongs to you. Your perseverance has paid off, and this is a proud moment for our entire island.”
