Torres, Limtiaco Join Women’s Chamber Forum in Show of Leadership

Recognizing the importance of engaging directly with Guam’s women and community leaders, Republican congressional candidate Sen. Mary Camacho Torres on Thursday joined Democratic congressional candidate and former U.S. Attorney Alicia Limtiaco for a forum hosted by the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce.

Torres is challenging incumbent Delegate James Moylan in the Republican primary election. The winner of that race will advance to face Limtiaco in the general election. Moylan did not participate in Thursday’s forum.

At the forum, Torres discussed her proposals to address challenges Guam families are currently facing, including rising costs, access to childcare, and opportunities for small businesses.

“We cannot keep asking families to work harder while life becomes more expensive and opportunities feel further out of reach,” Torres said. “Success is not another press release. It is whether people can feel the difference in their own pocketbooks and believe they can still build a future here.”

Torres said forums like Thursday’s are an important part of allowing the public to hear directly from candidates seeking to represent them in Congress and compare their priorities for the island.

Earlier this week, Torres publicly called for a series of Republican primary debates with Moylan ahead of the August primary election. Moylan declined the request.

“When a candidate declines to debate, it is not the opposing campaign that loses out. It is the public,” Torres said. “These conversations matter because they give people the opportunity to ask questions, hear directly from candidates, and decide for themselves who is prepared to lead. Anyone asking for the public’s trust should be willing to stand before the community openly and earn it.”

The Torres campaign said its invitation to participate in public debates ahead of the Republican primary election remains open. Instagram
